چکیده

The nanomechanical properties of solvent-cast polymer thin films have been investigated using PeakForceTM Quantitative Nanomechanical Mapping. The samples consisted of films of polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) obtained after the dewetting of toluene solution on a polymeric brush layer. Additionally, we have probed the mechanical properties of poly(styrene-b-methyl methacrylate) block copolymers (BCP) as randomly oriented thin films. The probed films have a critical thickness <50 nm and present features to be resolved <42 nm. The Young’s modulus values obtained through several nanoindentation experiments present a good agreement with previous literature, suggesting that the PeakForceTM technique could be crucial for BCP investigations, e.g., as a predictor of the mechanical stability of the different phases.©2015Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) [DOI: 10.1117/1.JMM.14.3.033509]

Denture base polymers, poly methyl methacrylate improved using free radical copolymerization

Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the most common material used in Prosthodontics. Several studies indicate a breakdown of the number of very high resin bases after 2 to 3 years to avoid breaking bass and several attempts have been made, such as altering the chemical structure of resin by adding causes cross linking or copolymerization. The innovative method for improving the physical properti...

AFM/LFM surface studies of a ternary polymer blend cast on substrates covered by a self-assembled monolayer

Nanometer films composed of model ternary blend of deuterated polystyrene (dPS), poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PVP) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were studied after spin-coating from a common solvent. Surface undulations and the distribution of phase-separated domains at the surface and in the bulk are closely related as revealed by atomic (AFM) and lateral (LFM) force microscopy. For the first...

Self-assembled Nanostructures in Copolymer Blends: Saxs, sans and Tem Study

Phenomena associated with the phase behaviour and self-assembled nanostructures of three block copolymer systems have been studied by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and transmision electron microscopy (TEM). 1) System A-b-B/A (dPS-b-PMMA/PS homopolymer) were studied as a function of molecular weight and concentration of the added homopolymer. The para...

Covalent Stabilization of Nanostructures: Robust Block Copolymer Templates from Novel Thermoreactive Systems

Structurally robust block copolymer templates with feature sizes of approximately 10 nm were prepared from functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-polystyrene block copolymers. By the inclusion of benzocyclobutene crosslinking groups in the polystyrene block, the covalent stabilization of thin films to both thermal treatment and solvent exposure became possible. In addition, the crosslinking...

Tuning Substrate Surface Energies for Blends of Polystyrene and Poly(methyl methacrylate)

We compare the efficacies of three preparation methods intended to create in an easy and inexpensive way a nonpreferential surface for a two-component homopolymer blend of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate). The first method is to physically absorb two different high molecular weight copolymers of styrene and methyl methacrylate onto hydroxylated silicon oxide. The second method consists...
